CREATIVE DIRECTION AND SPATIAL DESIGN | SUSTAINABLE, HOLISTIC AND FUTURE-ORIENTED
NICOLE LACHELLE and CHRISTIAN NIESSEN are working as designers, creative directors and entrepreneurs within the fashion and luxury industries since the early nineties - fashion and product design, interior design, spatial design, as well as strategic planning and content creation are a constant part of their creative work for international brands like HELMUT LANG, PRADA, ROBERTO CAVALLI and JIL SANDER.
Before establishing the design and creative consulting company ART AND VANITY in New York in 2002 with Nicole, Christian worked for HELMUT LANG from 1991 to 2003, as Head of the Design Studio and as his right-hand / second in command directly with Helmut Lang on all aspects of the creative development for all collections and the brand.
Many pieces resulting from his work during the decade 1992 - 2003 can be found in permanent collections of museums around the world or are sought-after vintage collector items
In 2007 Nicole Lachelle and Christian Niessen founded the brand no_editions - www.noeditions.com - Individuality and Responsible Luxury - men’s and women’s clothing, accessories and other objects - each item has a unique design with serial number. Innovative finishings with Sterling / Argentium silver and a responsible production in Italy and Switzerland contribute to waste reduction and resource conservation, a step towards a circular economy.
As creative leaders, we work with our partner network and above all, our clients, to deliver the solution they need and love
We lead all stages of a project in a direct relationship with our customers - from strategy / planning to a completed space or building - with a consistent visual identity, meaningful architectural and technical solutions - and a special focus towards a healthy, sustainable and holistic solution
Our roots are in the alpine region, but we have been living and working in metropolises for 25 years - New York, Milan, Paris and Vienna, and are regularly traveling to the most important international cultural centers and cities.
The direct and lived experience of major cities, different cultures and urban lifestyles - concrete - steel - glass - informs our aesthetics, but also specifies the contrast - nature and serenity
Fundamental and rapidly accelerating social and climatic changes and increasing needs for continuous adaptation and flexibility, urgently require new, creative solutions for spatial design and building developments - innovative and future-oriented - reflecting a new reality and changes in people's lifestyle and needs
CLT / X-LAM - Cross Laminated Timber / solid wood is an overall superior building material
Cross-laminated wood is monolithic, with superior dimensional stability and significant shear strength performance at a very unique weight to strength ratio, allowing exceptional architectural solutions
It adheres to the strictest fire safety requirements, has superior acoustic and thermal properties and allows for a precise CNC pre-production of floor, wall and ceiling elements in a controlled factory environment, reducing on-site construction time and costs
Wood is the only renewable and 100% ecologically, recyclable building material - a natural carbon sink. Combined with a sustainable forest management, construction with CLT / X-LAM / solid wood actively contributes to a reduction of CO2, and contributes to fight climate change - 1 cubic meter of wood stores close to1 ton CO2
CLT / X-LAM / solid wood is a building material equivalent in longevity and value to stone and concrete structures - easy to modify and provides an excellent, pleasant, healthy indoor climate, free of building chemicals
- The 21st Century will be the century of wood -

A FUTURE ORIENTED, ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE BUILDING, ADHERING TO THE MOST RIGOROUS ENERGY EFFICIENCY, QUALITY AND AESTHETIC STANDARDS
A modern building structure with large open volumes, solid wood panel / CLT construction, a traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban exterior cladding and all natural finishings for all interior and exterior surfaces.
A holistic design approach, with a consistent choice of materials and sustainable construction methods, complying with Minergie P standards.
The coherent creative principles are expressed through clean forms, lack of extraneous decoration and a straightforward palette of materials used in their original state.
With its strict, rectangular and open floor volumes, the double height space and partial glass roof, THEWOODBUILDING evokes urban, industrial aspects, yet it is also referencing the historic, sparse, local and rural structures in wood.
CHARCOAL, CHALK AND NATURAL OILS
All surface treatments, exterior and interior, are based on historic, natural and chemical free methods
